In Britain we have 16 species of bats. Each is adpated slightly differently and has an important role to play in the ecosystem. Our native species are all insect eaters and even the tiniest can eat more than 5,000 midges in a single night.
Although bats are frequently seen in gardens, many species are in serious delcline. This book describes the fascinating natural history of bats and explores some of the legends associated with them. It also suggests ways in which the gardener can help these marvellous animals.
